Agnew Principal 

T.J. Reed was named principal of Agnew Middle School. He has a total of 14 years in education, with 12 in Mesquite ISD where he was most recently an assistant principal at West Mesquite High School.

Reed served as a teacher and coach in Sulfur Bluff ISD and Venus ISD prior to coming to Mesquite ISD. Reed taught science and coached at Agnew Middle School for five years, and was an assistant principal and registrar/assistant principal at North Mesquite High School for six years.  He is a member of the Region 10 Aspiring Principal Leadership Academy. Reed earned his bachelor’s from Angelo State University and master’s from Lamar University.

Agnew Assistant Principal 

Shenita Alsbrooks is the 7th grade Assistant Principal.  Mrs. Alsbrooks has a total of 15 years of experience in education. She served 10 years in Dallas ISD – eight years as a business teacher and two years as a testing coordinator at W. H. Adamson High School. She came to North Mesquite High School in 2016 as a business education teacher and worked in that capacity for three years. She most recently served as a student success teacher at West Mesquite High School for one year.

Alsbrooks earned her bachelor's and master's from Tarleton State University. She is currently a doctoral candidate with Abilene Christian University.

Mrs. Alsbrooks enjoys cooking, traveling with her family and friends as well as serving at her church and in the community.

Agnew Assistant Principal

Rick Coplin joined Agnew MS in 1994 as a teacher and coach. He then moved to MHS in 1999 as a Coach/teacher and became an administrator in 2000. He began his career from 1992 -1994 as a teacher/coach at Coyle Middle School in Rowlett. He taught and coached for 7 years and was the Associate Prinicipal at MHS for 9 years and at Horn High for 7 years. He has been the assistant principal at Agnew for the last 10 years.

Mr. Coplin attended Hanby Elementary, Wilkinson Middle School, and Mesquite High School. He received his master's degree from Texas A&M Commerce in 1997 in Administration.

He believes we must build relationships with all students and find what all students excel in to help them succeed in life.

In his free time, he loves to fish, hunt, and hang out with his family and dogs.

Agnew Assistant Principal

Mahlee Laird is new to Agnew as the 6th grade Assistant Principal. Laird has just started her 8th year in education. She began her career in Mesquite ISD where she taught 5th grade at Thompson Elementary. The next year she had an opportunity to go to Sunnyvale ISD, where she grew up and graduated. Mahlee taught 6th and 7th grade history and coached volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. During her time at Sunnyvale, she taught her brother and coached him in track. Laird came back to Mesquite ISD in 2018, where she taught 6th and 8th grade reading and was an instructional coach at Terry Middle School. At semester break, she began her career as an administrator at Henrie Elementary in the role of Assistant Principal. Laird was an AP at Henrie for a year and a half before moving back to Terry Middle School as the 6th grade Assistant Principal for the 2020 - 2021 school year. Ms. Laird is so excited to now be an Agnew Trojan! She is ready for a great year and cannot wait to hit the ground running! 

Laird earned her bachelor's from Texas Woman's University and master's from the University of North Texas. 

Ms. Laird enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, watching sports, and playing with her super cute pups!
